Standard Horizon

Standard Horizon are now on board to help the Engelandvaarders 2011 team with communications for the crossing. They are supplying us with its new HX851E, the first fully compatible GMDSS DSC hand portable VHF with GPS. This is truely state of the art communication equipment that integrates VHF, GPS, emergeny distress calls, all within a lightweight waterproof and floating case.

Its perfect for a crossing of this nature, and we are very grateful for the Standard Horizon team for helping us out, and letting us test their products to the limit.

Check out their website for more information.

Kari-Tek

Kari-tek have been helping us out so much with the project- They lent us a fantastic piece of kit in the form of a Easy Load Roof Rack system. We have been able to carry three large sea kayaks on the top of one car, helping us train in Wales and Suffolk. It is a great help, and one person can load three boats onto the side rack and then load onto the top of the car- it makes a huge difference and we are hugely grateful to the team at Kari-tek.

Sea Kayaking UK

A Huge thanks to Sea Kayaking UK. They have come up trump with kit for the crossing. Nigel Dennis has made up three new Explorers for the team, which are great rough weather kayaks. They have had a tough outing with Alec and Ed in the Irish Sea in force 6, and have held up well. Training has really now kicked off with the boats. Self-rescues and rolls and long distance runs are our weekend sessions- we're going to need all the practice we can get.

Olly Hicks

Its been a very big week for the team this week. We have got confirmation that Olly Hicks is going to be joining our crossing. Olly brings with him a huge amount of experience from his range of Ocean crossings over the past 6 or so years.

With his guidance we have been working very hard on the "background" safety issues that are so vital on a trip like this.

Its so great to have him on the trip, and you are welcome to contact him through this website if you have any questions about this crossing or any of his future plans.
